Here are some quick and effective tips on writing effective social media copy:

Simplicity Helps – It is important to keep your writing simple. Avoid long and complex sentences, which tend to lack focus and can create confusion as well. It is recommended to keep sentences, short and focused. Thus, your audience does not have to work hard to understand your message.

Remember Your Target Audience – You need to keep your target audience in mind when you are writing for social media. It always helps when you talk about their specific challenges or their pain-points. Once they feel associated, they are definitely going to connect to your brand.

Maintain the Right Format – You need to always focus on the format. You do not always have to follow a similar format and it can keep changing, depending on what you are writing. Thus, maintaining the right format is essential, especially when you are writing for an infographic, image, video, or even when you are working on a collage.

Your Tone is Crucial – Your tone of writing is critical and will be dependent on the purpose of your post. Based on your target audience and the purpose of each post, the tone of your writing will change. Tone can be convincing, helpful, funny, and emotional or even one which depicts frustration or anger. Keep changing the tone of your content, it shouldn’t be the same for all posts all the time.

Using Emojis – Yes, these do help in building a strong connection with your target audience. Emojis can help in creating fun, interesting and engaging posts. It’s important when selecting the emojis to use, that you keep your target audience in mind. It’s also very essential to use the right emoji for your writing style.

Testing and Revising is Important – Once you have written the content for social media, don’t be scared to try new techniques. And then keep refining the copy as you try and test new styles and strategies. You need content that performs well. Once you realize your content is being appreciated, and people are engaging, it’s time to find out the reasons for such performance, and measure your results. So that moving forward, you can implement similar strategies for your other content. This will help in creating posts which connect with people.

To keep things simple, we’ve created this handy infographic. It outlines the tips noted above, that you can print to keep handy at your desk.
